Another Podium Finish for Team Vorarlberg in the Caribbean
“We conserved our energy for a long time and were then the dominant team on the final climb. That gives us a lot of confidence for the rest of the tour.” That was the extremely positive assessment from race director Paul Renger at the finish line of today’s third stage of the Tour de Guadeloupe. After the 149-kilometer stage from Le Gosier to Capesterre-Belle-Eau, “I’m now fully convinced that we’ll be a major contender in the general classification,” said Renger.
In terms of numbers, this means that Colin Stüssi, who finished second on the day (in a group of seven, just behind France’s Damien Urcel), moved up to sixth place overall. The Vorarlberg team captain trails Bogdan Zabelinskiy by 1:34 minutes; Zabelinskiy also finished with the leading group and thus defended the yellow jersey. Emanuel Zangerle, who finished ninth on the day, lost only 14 seconds and is actually in fourth place overall after three days—1:01 minutes behind Zabelinskiy.
Tobias Nolde (16th, 2:17 minutes behind) and Dominik Röber (26th, 3:07 minutes behind) are also still very much in the running and, together with Kilian Feurstein and Dominik Amann, round out Team Vorarlberg’s strong team spirit.
A total of 1,225 kilometers are on the schedule in the Caribbean through next Sunday. Twenty-eight teams are competing.
