Intense start to the season for Team Vorarlberg at the Giro di Sardegna UCI 2.1 end of February – preparations are going according to plan!

Prestigious invitation for Team Vorarlberg

One of the most successful seasons in Team Vorarlberg’s history is barely over, and the 28th season is already fast approaching. The positive mood during preparations has now been rounded off by a prestigious invitation: Colin Stüssi’s team will compete in the Giro di Sardegna UCI 2.1 at the end of February.

Five stages and 830 kilometers of racing around the Mediterranean island form the backdrop for the traditional start of the season. Numerous teams are competing for a place in the Tour of Sardinia, with more than ten teams from the 1st and 2nd categories registered this year. Right in the thick of it: Team Vorarlberg, which was invited by the organizers to this first test of strength after strong performances in the previous season.

Ignazio Cireddu, one of two new Italians in Team Vorarlberg, is particularly excited. He is entering the difficult race as a local hero. “Since I live in Sardinia, it’s very special for me to be part of the team for the home tour. I’m currently training very intensively for the start of the season. We all know that it will be very difficult against the big teams, which are already in race mode. Nevertheless, I know every kilometer here. This will not be a disadvantage for the team!”

Optimal preparation so far

Cireddu’s optimism is shared by sporting director Paul Renger. “Preparation for the season is going absolutely according to plan so far. After the first training camps, the mood couldn’t be better. Everyone is highly motivated and has come through the winter without any colds or illness-related absences.”

Eleven-strong team for 2026

Team Vorarlberg will once again be led by Colin Stüssi in the new year. The 32-year-old Swiss rider is entering his eighth season with Austria’s most successful professional team. With Dominik Amann, Laurin Nenning, and Kilian Feurstein, there are three local heroes in the squad, plus two other Austrians in Emanuel Zangerle and new signing Philipp Hofbauer. In addition to Ignazio Cireddu, Giacomo Ballabio is another Italian in the line-up for 2026. The team is completed by three strong Germans: Pirmin Benz, Dominik Röber (new) and Tobias Nolde (also new). Jannis Peter, Alexander Konychev, Lukas Meiler, Felix Stehli and Daniel Geismayr have left the Vorarlberg racing team.
