Team Vorarlberg pro Alexander Konychev sprints to ninth place at the start of the Czech Tour UCI 2.1 – Daniel Geismayr dominates the race for a long time
The Czech Tour marked the start of another season highlight for Team Vorarlberg today. And it was a good start. The four-day Czech Tour, covering 664 kilometers, is categorized as UCI category 2.1, like the Tour of Austria, and features a strong field. Among others, the World Tour teams VISMA – lease a bike and Soudal – Quick Step are participating.
Daniel Geismayr shows great courage in the leading group
The first stage on Thursday from Prague to Karlovy Vary covered 163 varied kilometers with constant short climbs. But very quickly, a leading group set off. Daniel Geismayr was among them, also picking up points in the mountain classifications. He pushed the pace vehemently. Nevertheless, after 20 kilometers, the breakaway was over.
Alexander Konychev sprints to ninth place
The sprinter teams closed the gap. In the mass sprint, American Luke Lamperti (Soudal-Quick Step) won ahead of Italian Davide Donatti (Red Bull-BORA hansgrohe).
Team Vorarlberg professional Alexander Konychev sprinted into the top ten and finished second in the stage. Jannis Peter finished at the same time.
The second stage on Friday ends with a mountain finish on Dlouhe Strane (1320 meters). This is the first opportunity for the two strong climbers Colin Stüssi and Jannis Peter to position themselves for the overall classification.
