Kilian Feurstein and Alexander Konychev with a violent act into the top ten at the start of the 41st Tour of Romania Turul Romaniei UCI 2.2

41st Tour of Romania Turul Romaniei UCI 2.2 – Feurstein and Konychev make a big effort to finish in the top ten on the first stage

The final tour of the season was also a first for Team Vorarlberg! It was their first time at the start of the Tour of Romania, covering five days and 834 kilometers. Saturday’s stage was a very long one, with 212 (!) kilometers. And it was a strong start!

Team Vorarlberg duo with an incredible feat of strength

The opening section on Wednesday from Craiova to Valcea, covering 175 kilometers. The first large breakaway group at the very beginning of the race consisted of two riders, Kilian Feurstein and Alexander Konychev from Vorarlberg. This group shrank in the rainy weather. Feurstein and Konychev did everything they could to break through the onrushing field. But their lead was shrinking. In the end, it was only a few seconds, but they pulled through!

Feurstein does a great job – Konychev sprints to fifth place

22-year-old Kilian Feurstein works hard for his boss and brings the leading group into the final 1,000 meters. The initial attacks were countered. Maximilian Schmidbauer’s attack from Team WSA KTM Graz was irresistible. He was rewarded with victory for the World Championship-tested Austrian. Alexander Konychev sprinted to fifth place, with Kilian Feurstein crossing the finish line in ninth. Close behind were Colin Stüssi, Emanuel Zangerle, and others.

Team Vorarlberg thus once again put in an extremely strong performance at the start of the tour, before a mountain finish awaits tomorrow after 172 kilometers.
