Lisa Brömmel Wins the German Unsupported Ultracycling Championship!

Team Vorarlberg has also claimed victory in the women’s division. German athlete Lisa Brömmel has been sponsored by Team Vorarlberg since this year. Brömmel , the Ultracycling World and European Champion from Heiden, has now added the national title to her collection of medals. The 39-year-old completed the “Race Across Germany”—a 1,129-kilometer race—in 46 hours, entirely on her own and without any support.

The Challenge: 1,129 km and 7,500 meters of elevation gain in record time

The long-distance athlete took on the challenge of running from Flensburg to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Over a distance of 1,129 kilometers and with 7,500 meters of elevation gain, she battled her way to the finish in a total time of just  46 hours and 6 minutes across Germany. The actual driving time was an impressive  About 42 hours, leaving a net break of only 4 hours.

Race Recap: Cold in the Harz Mountains, a Battle Against the Heat, and a Power Nap in Bavaria

The race began with surprisingly hilly terrain and strong winds in the north, but the first day went according to plan. The first night through the Harz Mountains brought temperatures as low as 6 degrees and the first signs of fatigue. On the second day, with temperatures well over 30 degrees, every possible means of cooling was put to the test. Ice, ice, and more ice. On the second night, shortly before reaching Bavaria, severe sleep deprivation set in. A perfectly timed 10-minute power nap at a bus stop revived Brömmel’s spirits. Noteworthy: Brömmel covered the entire route without a single breakdown.

Crossing the Finish Line and Winning the Title

After an incredible 46 hours, Lisa Brömmel (Cycle Cafe p/b Team Vorarlberg) crossed the finish line in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and was awarded the trophy as the German Champion in unsupported ultracycling. Another accolade for Germany’s top athlete in ultracycling—congrats, Lisa!
