Team Vorarlberg cracks Felix Stehli and Kilian Feurstein top 15 at the Gravel European Championships in Italy!
Felix Stehli and Kilian Feurstein in the Top 15 at the Gravel European Championships in Avezzano
Team Vorarlberg competed with a trio at the top of the field at this year’s Gravel European Championships in Avezzano near Rome. Daniel Geismayr, Felix Stehli, and youngster Kilian Feurstein asserted their claim to the top spots from the start in the very large field.
A super-tough circuit with top-notch gravel sections and bad luck for Geismayr
It was a super-tough and technical course over five laps, totaling 148 kilometers and 2,400 meters of elevation gain. Daniel Geismayr, perhaps the hottest contender for Team Vorarlberg on this course, had to abandon the race after just a few meters. A competitor knocked Geismayr to the ground, and the race was over due to equipment failure and injuries.
Mads Würtz Schmidt European Champion – Stehli 14th, Feurstein 15th
Felix Stehli also had to contend with two tire punctures and ultimately finished 14th. Just one place behind was the 22-year-old youngster Kilian Feurstein, who once again rode an extremely strong race and delivered another showcase of his talent on gravel. The new European Champion is the Dane Mads Würtz Schmidt from Denmark, ahead of the Norwegian Anton Stensby and the Frenchman Hugo Drechou!
The highlight for the gravel specialists will be the World Championships in the Netherlands (Limburg) on October 13th. Team Vorarlberg will also be participating!
Keep on riding!
