Team Vorarlberg pro Emanuel Zangerle with incredible fight in tough battle at fourth Tour of the Alps UCI 2.PRO stage – Colin Stüssi still in top 25!

Team Vorarlberg pro Emanuel Zangerle puts in an incredible effort on the fourth Tour of the Alps stage – Colin Stüssi still in the top 25 after a tough battle

This stage will be talked about for a long time. Rain sets in after the start in Sillian. Temperatures drop to below three degrees on the passes! Some riders, including Lukas Meiler, had to get off their bikes exhausted and frozen on the 162 kilometer (3300 vertical meters) long route to Obertilliach. But Team Vorarlberg pro Emanuel Zangerle was unaffected for a long time.

Emanuel Zangerle with a heroic performance!

The 24-year-old Tyrolean attacks very soon after the start and gets away with five other pros. He finishes second in the sprint classification and dominates the race at the front for a long time. The attackers are caught by the overall leaders towards the middle of the race, but Emanuel Zangerle strikes back on the descent. He is able to “attack over the top” again and finishes fourth on the ascent to the Pustertaler Höhenstraße. Only then is the courageous performance of the young Tyrolean pro over. A strong performance against the best climbers!

Colin Stüssi still in the top 25 of the overall standings

“The cold and wet literally drained the strength out of my body. I felt good at the start, but I didn’t have the last bit of energy. I’m glad that I survived today, as I’m sure many others did!” said Colin Stüssi

The other Team Vorarlberg pros also cross the finish line heavily marked and have earned a big CHAPEAU for completing the stage today. Dutchman Thymen Arensman wins the stage. The INEOS-Grenadiers pro strikes back and snatches the overall lead from TUDOR pro Michael Storer. Daniel Geismayr is 30th today, Colin Stüssi 31st and Alexander Konychev 34th.

Colin Stüssi ranks 25th overall as best Continental rider before the last stage!

Emanuel Zangerle: “Today I thought I would go on the attack. No matter what the weather is like, because attack is the best defense was my motto. In the final I tried again to get as far as I could. That’s why I attacked again. So far we have been super active as a team on all stages and have been able to show ourselves against the big names who will also be at the front of the Giro d Italia. At the finish I fell off my bike completely frozen!”
