Selection at third stage Tour of the Alps UCI 2.PRO – Colin Stüssi and Team Vorarlberg pros keep fighting! Liam Crowley finishes tenth in the Dornham Ras Mumhan
The third stage on Wednesday from Sterzing to Obertilliach over 145 kilometers was crisp and tough. Again today, almost 3000 meters of altitude difference in the eternal ups and downs of the Puster Valley. A fast pace at the start. A larger leading group can break away, which also includes the Swiss Team Vorarlberg legionnaire Felix Stehli.
On the approach to Obertilliach over the Furkla Pass, Colin Stüssi is able to keep up with the overall leaders. His team colleagues Jannis Peter and Alexander Konychev are able to catch up again on the descent. They bring their captain into the last difficult climb shortly before the finish.
Stüssi’s fight keeps him with the men – now in 22nd place overall
Colin Stüssi can keep up with the best for a long time. Then his legs give out. Nevertheless, Stüssi rides another strong stage and finishes 29th, a good two minutes behind. Solo winner today is the Italian Marco Frigo from Team Israel-Premier tech, ahead of the Australian Jai Hindley (Red Bull – BORA hansgrohe).
Australian Michael Storer (Tudor-Pro Cycling) continues to lead the overall standings ahead of Giulio Ciccone (LIDL-Trek). Colin Stüssi may have lost two places, but remains the best Continental rider among the best climbers in 22nd place.
AND Team Vorarlberg is one of the few teams that still has all seven riders in the field.
Off to East Tyrol – and it remains tough!
On Thursday, the Tour Tross turns off on the fourth stage to East Tyrol. The start is in Sillian, the finish in Obertilliach. In between, there are 3300 meters of altitude difference spread over 162 kilometers.
