The new overall leader of the Tour de Guadeloupe is Tobias Nolde. The 27-year-old from Team Vorarlberg finished in 22nd place today, 30 seconds behind the stage winner, Johan Meens of Belgium. Thanks to a time bonus right at the start of the stage from Karucoco to Sainte-Anne (154 km), the German took the yellow jersey alongside American Owen Cole.
From a Vorarlberg perspective, the man of the day was Emanuel Zangerle, who rode very aggressively, was part of every breakaway group, and ultimately earned his place on the podium as the day’s third-place finisher, taking over the green jersey as the points leader. In the general classification, Zangerle moved up to tenth place, 3:52 behind his teammate Nolde. Colin Stüssi, in 13th place (4:36 behind), and Dominik Röber, in 26th place (6:13 behind), also remain focused on the general classification.
Kilian Feurstein once again impressed with his skills in today’s final and, by finishing eighth, proved that he is always a force to be reckoned with, especially in the sprint.
Rain joined the heat and high humidity in the Caribbean today. This made the course slippery and dangerous, especially on the steep sections.
A total of 1,225 kilometers are on the schedule through Sunday. Twenty-eight teams are competing. Tomorrow’s (Wednesday) mountain stage is expected to be a decisive one. It is considered the toughest stage of this year’s Tour de Guadeloupe and features 2,182 meters of elevation gain.
