Two Podium Finishes for Team Vorarlberg
After yesterday’s rain during the time trial, the team faced Sunshine again today in Vorarlberg. Colin Stüssi succeeded in his bid for a spot on the overall podium, which he had failed to achieve the day before. In the daily standings, Dominik Röber also made it into the top three.
After the first hills were conquered today on the 145-kilometer stage from Pointe-à-Pitre to Saint-Claude, a group formed that was particularly exciting from a Vorarlberg perspective: Tobias Nolde was the highest-placed rider in the general classification among the 13 breakaway riders, whose lead reached seven minutes at one point. The rider in ninth place overall received support from Dominik Röber, who was also in the breakaway group and finished third on the grueling final climb behind Belgian Johan Meens and Damien Urcel of France.
Colin Stüssi also showed his best side in the final. He gained nearly two minutes on the race leader, Owen Cole, today and, by finishing tenth for the day, passed three competitors, putting him in an outstanding third place in the overall standings behind Cole and Clement Sanchez (France). With Tobias Nolde (who finished twelfth today), a second Team Vorarlberg pro can look forward to a spot in the top 10.
On paper, tomorrow’s final stage should be a sprinter’s race. “But there have already been a few surprises this week. Somehow, you never really know exactly what’s going to happen here. We’ll see what happens tomorrow,” said Race Director Paul Renger, looking ahead to the tenth and final day in the Caribbean.
