Luck in misfortune after mass crash for three Team Vorarlberg pros – Konychev 14th on first Tour of Hellas stage

14th place for Alexander Konychev on the first stage of the Tour of Hellas UCI 2.1 – three Team Vorarlberg riders have to hit the tarmac in the finale

The first stage of the 20th Tour of Greece Tour of Hellas UCI 2.1 from Patra to Agrinio ended with a sprint finish after 140 kilometers. Italian Matteo Moschetti (Q36.5 Pro Team) was the winner and overall leader of the tour. Second place went to Dylan Groenewegen (NED / Jayco Alula).

Konychev in 14th place – Amann, Meiler and Peter had to go down abruptly

The best Team Vorarlberg rider on the fast stage was Alexander Konychev in 14th place, but the result took a back seat today as three Vorarlberg riders – Dominik Amann, Jannis Peter and Lukas Meiler – were involved in a mass crash in the final kilometers. All of them finished the stage with a time deficit and suffered abrasions. According to sports director Paul Renger, there were no other lasting injuries. Colin Stüssi, the man responsible for the overall classification, finished in the first group.

The second stage ends tomorrow with a mountain finish. The queen stage is stage number four on Saturday to Athens with over 3500 meters of climbing. With the two World Tour teams Jayco ALula and Team Astana, as well as several UCI Pro Teams, the five-day tour has an outstanding line-up.

A look back: in 2002 (Fraser McMaster / NZL, and 2003 (Vasilis Anastopoulos / GRE) Team Vorarlberg alias Team Volksbank-Ideal won the race
