Team Vorarlberg pro Kilian Feurstein just misses the podium – fourth in the first stage of the Tour of Istria UCI 2.2!
Poreč/Funtana. On the second, 150-kilometre stage of the Tour of Istria from Porec to Funtana, peppered with 1700 meters of elevation gain, the Kilian Feurstein from Team Vorarlberg put in a super strong performance and sprinted to an excellent fourth place. The youngster missed the first UCI podium by just centimeters.
Strong competition in the final – but Team Vorarlberg takes responsibility!
In the thrilling final, the Vorarlberg native was only beaten by the winner Bruno Kessler (GER / Tudor), Jesper Stiansen (NOR / Tudor) and Moritz Mauss (GER / UAE Emirates).
Kilian Feurstein: “Real bike race today in Croatia!”
“That was a real bike race today! The team did a great job all day and placed me ideally in the final. We kept bringing back groups and made the race hard and fast for other sprinters. It’s cool that we finished in the top five today. Tomorrow we’ll try to get Giacomo Ballabio into position,” said a satisfied Kilian Feurstein.
Focus on overall standings on Saturday’s stage
Sports Director Paul Renger praised Feurstein’s performance and looked ahead: “We are very proud of Kilian. For tomorrow we are counting on Giacomo Ballabio to give him the best possible support on the demanding stage. Let’s see how it works out!”
