VICTORY! Alexander Konychev wins the 64th Cherry Blossom Race Wels after an impressive team performance – Team Vorarlberg takes the lead in the national cycling league ahead of GP Vorarlberg!
That did the trick today! The men from Team Vorarlberg were able to put their stamp on the spring classic in Wels over 170 kilometers in impressive style. Alexander Konychev wins the 64th International Cherry Blossom Race in Wels solo. His team colleagues Emanuel Zangerle and Jannis Peter finished sixth and seventh. The squad from Vorarlberg thus takes the lead in the individual and team rankings of the Cycling League Austria!
Team Vorarlberg with the decisive and courageous attack!
At the start of the race, young Kilian Feurstein secures the lead for the team in the first leading group. Then it was Daniel Geismayr and Felix Stehli who jumped in and put the pinpricks on the competition. The decisive attack a good 20 kilometers before the end of the race. Jannis Peter, Emanuel Zangerle and Alexander Konychev break away with four rivals. In the pursuit race against the field, the three Vorarlberg riders put all their eggs in one basket and pushed hard.
Konychev goes solo and takes an important victory
The 26-year-old Konychev attacks on the last climb and rides solo towards the finish after almost four hours. He wins seven seconds ahead of the German former Team Vorarlberg rider Jon Knolle from Team Rembe-Rad-net. Third place went to the Austrian Fabian Steininger (WSA-KTM Graz).
“We controlled the race today and were always present. When there were three of us in the group, we had to attack. The solo ride to the finish was the limit. But thanks to the Tour of the Alps, we now have a certain racing hardness. I’m happy after my long-awaited victory, I say THANK YOU to the whole team and I’m looking forward to what’s to come this season! said today’s winner Alexander Konychev
