Team Vorarlberg starts at the Giro di Sardegna: An early assessment in the Italian spring!

The Austrian professional cycling team Team Vorarlbergwill take part in the prestigious “2.1 Giro di Sardegna” stage race in Italy from February 25 to March 1, 2026. For the team led by manager Thomas Kofler and sports director Paul Renger, the five-day tour is an important early stage in the still young season and an excellent opportunity to present themselves on the international stage. With a total of 825.1 kilometers of stages and challenging altitude profiles, the Giro di Sardegna promises exciting races on the picturesque Mediterranean island.

The line-up: a mixture of experience and talent

The seven-man squad will be led by leader Colin Stüssi(SUI), the overall winner of the 2023 Tour of Portugal, who is keen to prove his early form. The two Italian local heroes Ignazio Ciredduand Giacomo Ballabio are likely to be particularly motivated as they want to show off in front of their home crowd at their home race. The team is completed by the strong Austrians Philipp Hofbauer and Emanuel Zangerle as well as the talented German Tobias Nolde. Dominik Amann from Vorarlberg will also be putting his skills at the service of the team.

The race track: challenging and versatile

The Giro di Sardegna is known for its hilly stages, which offer opportunities for both sprinters and climbers. The first stage leads over 189.8 kilometers from Castelsardo to Bosa and already has a challenging 3061 meters of altitude. Another key passage will be the fourth stage from Arbatax to Nuoro, which is the biggest challenge for the climbers with 153.6 kilometers and 3188 meters of altitude. The tour ends in Olbia on March 1 after five varied days.

Management expectations

“The Giro di Sardegna is an excellent opportunity for our team to compete at a high level early in the season,” says sports director Paul Renger. “We have a well-balanced team at the start that can make its mark both in the mountains and on the flatter sections. It is important for Colin Stüssi to collect his first race kilometers and consolidate his role as leader. Our Italian riders will also be particularly motivated. We have great ambitions for the start and want to show our best side. ‘Faster than spacetime’ is not just a motto, but our daily drive on the track.”

Team Vorarlberg is looking forward to exciting days in Sardinia and is ready to take on the challenges of the race.
