The longed-for rest day was used to recover, but also to do some preparatory work for week two of the tour. There are still 12,000 meters of climbing and 900 kilometers of racing ahead. And above all, the decision about the Tour.
The stage today, Tuesday, from Penedono to Braganca over 177 kilometers and 3300 vertical meters started like most. Right from the start, the Wahoo computers showed a speed of 50. The entire team also took on responsibility today in second position in the peloton, keeping an overview until the final and parrying all attacks. There they let the safe leading group go. The winner was the US-American Hugo JR Scala (Project Echelon). Colin Stüssi is equal in time with the top ten riders today 18th and defends second place in the overall standings. The young Jannis Peter is still strong after a total of almost 21 hours riding time 19th in the 85th Tour of Portugal.
Well done to Lukas Meiler, Alexander Konychev, Felix Stehli, Pirmin Benz and also to Lukas Rüegg, who fought his way through the heat, even though he was battered today.
