Team Vorarlberg opens 27th season in Croatia – Alexander Konychev in 15th place at the Umag Trophy UCI 1.2
A small novelty in Team Vorarlberg history at the start of the season. Four riders from Vorarlberg Country opened the 27th season at the Umag Trophy in Croatia. Daniel Geismayr, back in the team after four years, as well as Dominik Amann, Laurin Nenning and Kilian Feurstein. Liam Crowley, the newcomer from Ireland, and Alexander Konychev (ITA) completed the line-up for the UCI 1.2 race over 142 kilometers.
Konychev fills up – but on the wrong rear wheel
Liam Crowley found himself in a leading group on his team debut, but was dropped again. As were all the other groups. Eight kilometers later a wild mass crash, unfortunately too often the case in these opening races. Team Vorarlberg make it through unscathed today. It looks good for Alexander Konychev for a long time in the sprint of the peloton. However, the Italian gets the wrong rear wheel and finishes 15th. The winner is the Slovakian Mathias Schwarzbacher (UAE-Emirates), ahead of former Team Vorarlberg sprinter Filippo Fortin (ITA / Solution Tech Vini Fantini).
