Brutal Tour of the Alps royal stage – Colin Stüssi continues in TOP 15 of the overall standings with a brilliant performance!

Team Vorarlberg captain strong on the queen stage of the Tour of the Alps UCI 2.Pro – Stüssi remains in the top 15 of the overall standings after harem ride – Zangerle continues in the Breakaway King jersey

The eagerly awaited queen stage of the Tour of the Alps on Thursday from Arco to Trento, which stretched over 168 brutal kilometers and 4100 vertical meters, delivered what it promised. Shortly after the start on the first climb up the Passo Bordala (1251 m), a merciless breakaway unfolded. The battle for the overall classification and the stage win raged at the front, while at the back of the field every meter counted in order not to exceed the qualifying time. The exertions of the previous days were deep in the bones of the pros. The Team Vorarlberg pros  Emanuel ZangerleKilian Feurstein and Dominik Röber found himself in these hard-fought groups after 30 kilometers and was able to finish the stage successfully. Unfortunately, 21-year-old Ignazio Cireddu (ITA) and  Tobias Nolde (GER) finished the race prematurely today after doing an excellent team job. It shows the toughness of the race that other well-known pros also had to retire early today.

Stüssi and Hofbauer hold their own in mountainous terrain

A five-man lead group dominated the action for a long time on this fourth section of the Tour of the Alps, which included six climbs. Behind them, the peloton shrank continuously, with the two Team Vorarlberg Pro’s  Colin Stüssi and Philipp Hofbauer were able to hold their own impressively. Only in the final climb did  Philipp Hofbauer, while Colin Stüssi fought his way to the finish in a strong 24th place. Philipp Hofbauer crossed the finish line in 52nd place. The stage win went to the German Lennart Jasch (TUDOR Pro Cycling), ahead of Matteo Sobrero (ITA / LIDL-Trek). Italian Gulio Pellizzari (Red Bull BORA hansgrohe) continues to lead the overall standings, four seconds ahead of Thymen Arensman (NED / INEOS Grenadiers).  Colin Stüssi is now in 15th place overall, among the best climbers from the World Tour. An honorable interim result and a big chapeau for the performance of Team Vorarlberg and captain  Stüssi before the final stage.

Colin Stüssi commented after the stage: “Today was one of the toughest stages I’ve ever ridden. But I was able to keep up with the pace today and I’m super happy that I can hold my own here among the WorldTour pros. We’ll give it our all again tomorrow for a good final result!”

Zangerle continues in the Brakeaway King jersey – mountain jersey changes hands

On this royal stage Emanuel Zangerle handed over his hard-fought mountain jersey to the American Sean Quinn from Team EF Education EasyPost. However, Zangerle is still in second place in the mountain classification, just three points behind. BUT the Austrian still has the jersey of the most active rider on his shoulders and thus day four at the podium.

Looking ahead: the final stage to Bolzano

Tomorrow, Friday, the final stage from Trento to Bolzano is on the program. On 129 kilometers, over 3000 meters of elevation gain await, which will once again challenge the decimated field. The five Team Vorarlberg pros are ready.
