Double pain for Team Vorarlberg! Colin Stüssi out of the Giro della Regione Friuli injured after a heavy crash on the second stage!

That hurts! Team Vorarlberg leader Colin Stüssi has to leave the Giro della Regione Friuli after a crash – season finale wobbly

Today’s tough, 145-kilometer queen stage from Ampezzo up to Sauris had been planned quite differently. In heavy rain, there was a serious mass crash in a roadworks area. Lukas Rüegg and Colin Stüssi also had to go down.

“There was a crash with about 20 riders on the slippery road. Luki and I were in the middle of it. I more or less just fell over myself when a following rider hit me in the calf and hip area. I knew right then that this tour was over for me. What a shame for the team and of course for myself. I’m now going home immediately for examinations to find out exactly what’s going on!” says Colin Stüssi after his first aid

Not a good Thursday for Team Vorarlberg

Lukas Rüegg was able to resume the race, while his team colleague Felix Stehli fought for the day’s victory in a leading group. But he was also caught again. The Team Vorarlberg pros did not play a major role in the day’s result today. The day’s winner was the Belgian Aaron Dockx (Team Alpecin-Deceuncinck).

All in all, it was a very sobering day for the team. But even this valley of tears will be overcome together. There are still two more stages to go and we hope that Colin’s test results will give us the all-clear in the next few days. Good luck boys!
