Team Vorarlberg in the “David versus Goliath” battle at the TOTA

Team Vorarlberg, Austria’s renowned professional team, is looking forward to the upcoming Tour of the Alps with great anticipation and yet a little humility. The five-day tour starts on Monday in Innsbruck and culminates on Friday, April 24, in Bolzano. A prestigious wildcard enables the team from Rankweil to take part in this top-class race. In view of the strong competition on the start list, it will be a very tough day for the team from Vorarlberg against many top stars at world-class level. And yet: the team plans to play an active role, especially on the first two stages on Austrian terrain in Tyrol, and to present itself prominently on international TV channels such as Eurosport.

The goals

The Tour of the Alps is an important assessment for Team Vorarlberg, also with regard to the further season planning towards the Tour of Austria. Sports Director Paul Renger has nominated a powerful line-up that is ready to take on the challenge. “We are aware of the strength of the WorldTour teams, but we are here to set the tone and play our part in the race. Especially on the stages in Austria, we want to take the initiative and present ourselves to the public, so Paul Renger.

The line-up

The seven-member squad is led by Leader Colin Stüssi (SUI), the overall winner of the Tour of Portugal 2023.  Stüssi to quickly get back into his usual rhythm and prove his qualities as a leader. The young Austrian  Philipp Hofbauer will try to show off his climbing skills in the mountainous stages. The team is completed by youngster  Kilian FeursteinEmanuel Zangerle (both AUT), Ignazio Cireddu (ITA), Dominik Röber (GER) and Tobias Nolde (GER). All with the task of selling themselves as dearly as possible for five days. The only absentee is Giacomo Ballabio (ITA), who has not yet fully recovered from a viral illness.

Team Vorarlberg is ready for the upcoming mammoth task and is looking forward to the first stage with start and finish in Innsbruck over 144 kilometers. As usual, there will be comprehensive coverage of the Tour of the Alps.
