Third day – third time Team Vorarlberg in the lead at the Settimana Coppi e Bartali UCI 2.1
Third stage and third time in the leading group of the Settimana Coppi e Bartali UCI 2.1 – Team Vorarlberg bring Konychev and Peter to the finish in the peloton on a rainy stage
The 142-kilometre third stage from Riccione to Cesena on Thursday was characterized by bad weather, rain and strong winds. A tough battle right from the start.
And again! Alexander Konychev, another rider, made it into the leading group from the start. Together with Pascal Eenkhoorn (NED / Lotto-Quick Step) and Marcel Cambrubi (SPA / Q36.5 Pro Team), Konychev fought off the bunch. With 60 kilometers to go, the big teams turned up the heat and caught the trio.
Jannis Peter and Alexander Konychev in the decimated peloton
The big winner today was Jay Vine from Australia from Team UAE-Emirates. He won solo and is the new leader of the tour. Second Magnus Sheffield (GBR / INEOS-Grenadiers). Jannis Peter and Alexander Konychev cross the finish line in the steady rain after a 20-man group in the peloton.
Paul Renger – Sporting Director: “It’s incredible how the big teams can twist the throttle. Many of them have over 2000 kilometers of racing. We can’t (yet) keep up with them in the finale, but these are important and valuable kilometers for the riders!”
