Tour of Hellas: Team Vorarlberg ready for the mountains
Day 2: Karpenisi – Larissa (157 km)
“Everything according to plan, no special incidents” reported Team Vorarlberg race director Paul Renger after the second stage of the Tour of Greece. On the 157 kilometers from Karpenisi to Larissa Colin Stüssi, Philipp Hofbauer, Laurin Nenning, Dominik Röber and Emanuel Zangerle crossed the finish line at the same time as the day’s winner Dusan Rajovic. The 28-year-old Serb underlined his excellent form and celebrated his eleventh win of the season.
The course of the race is quickly told: After an initial lead group was caught on the last climb of the day, five men broke away from the peloton on the descent. Towards the end, the sprint specialist teams got serious and the escapees were caught three kilometers before the finish, resulting in a bunch sprint, just like yesterday.
“We got through well again and conserved our energy for tomorrow,” said Paul Renger at the finish looking back on the third stage. The longest section of the Tour of Hellas leads over 207 kilometers and 4266 meters of altitude from Volos to Lamia. Colin Stüssi in particular has his sights set high. “He was already at the front last year, although he wasn’t in the same early form as this season. We can expect something from him,” says Renger.
