Disappointment in the Time Trial
It was a tough day for Team Vorarlberg at the Tour de Guadeloupe. Colin Stüssi had gone into the 19-km individual time trial from Vieux-Habitants to Vieux-Fort with high hopes. In the end, disappointment prevailed. The Swiss rider had to settle for 15th place. He dropped one spot in the overall standings. Now in sixth place, he trails American Cole Owen by nearly five minutes; Owen, who finished fifth (52 seconds ahead of Stüssi), defended the yellow jersey and now holds a 2:47-minute lead over second-place Frenchman Gabin Vedel.
“I misjudged my energy and ran into a headwind on the flat section,” was Colin Stüssi’s brief comment—before immediately looking ahead and promising to go full throttle for the last two stages.
On a positive note for Team Vorarlberg: Kilian Feurstein defended the green jersey as the leader in points. And for Emanuel Zangerle and Tobias Nolde, who finished ninth and eleventh, respectively, a spot in the top 10 of the overall standings remains within reach.
