Team Vorarlberg pro Colin Stüssi keeps his chances alive for a spot on the overall podium at the Tour Alsace UCI 2.2 with an eighth-place finish – Felix Stehli takes the podium in Switzerland
Colin Stüssi eighth on La Planche des Belles Filles and in contention for a podium place in the Tour Alsace – Felix Stehli third in Swiss
It was a tough ride in France. The third stage of the Tour Alsace, covering 141 kilometers from Vesoul up to La Planche des Belles Filles, brought the expected shake-up in the overall standings. The Spaniard Markel Beloki (EF Education – Aevolo) won 20 seconds ahead of the Colombian Santiago Umba (Team Astana). Colin Stüssi, who rode strongly, finished eighth, another five seconds behind.
Beloki now leads the overall standings. Colin Stüssi is only a few seconds off the podium and will take every opportunity that arises, especially on Sunday. Another mountain finish awaits.
Stomach problems in the field also affect Jannis Peter and Pirmin Benz
Pirmin Benz had to withdraw before the start with severe stomach problems. Jannis Peter fought his way to the finish line despite stomach cramps. Other riders are also suffering from similar problems.
The fourth stage on Saturday from Ferrette to Altkirsch over 134 kilometers tends to be a matter for the classics department, before the difficult final stage on Sunday brings the decision.
