Team Vorarlberg satisfied with prologue start at 21st Tour Alsace in France
Warm-up for Team Vorarlberg at the prologue of the 21st Tour Alsace UCI 2.2
At the invitation of long-time team sponsor Toni Jung, the Alsace baker, Team Vorarlberg received an invitation to the 21st edition of the Tour Alsace UCI 2.2. The prologue in Sausheim, which ended late on Wednesday evening, covered 4.3 kilometres and marked the start of the five-day tour. The format was somewhat unusual. Two teams of three riders per team in the style of a team time trial.
The task was clear: get through safely and don’t fall too far behind the specialists. After all, the overall classification is decided in the mountains. Pirmin Benz and the two U23 riders Kilian Feurstein and Laurin Nenning formed Team Vorarlberg 1 and completed this mandatory task.
Overall contenders Colin Stüssi and Jannis Peter raced along the technically challenging route with Emanuel Zangerle. They finished in the middle of the field and were satisfied, as they are only seconds behind their closest competitors for the tour!
Stage two starts tomorrow at Europa Park in Rust and covers a flat 168 kilometres to Selestat. On paper, it’s a race for the sprinters.
